HISTORY
According to some early documents, Bradford was said to be first settled between 1803-05 by James White and Robert Marshall of Thomaston however early settler Cornelius Bradford was among the first to live in the settlement and died there in 1790. Cornelius Bradford is a lineal descendant of Governor William Bradford of the Plymouth Colony. He was the eldest child of Joshua and Hannah Bradford, who were killed during the Raid on Meduncook. Bradford became a plantation in 1820 and a town in 1831.

Training Opportunity - New date!!

7 September 2014 Fire Department members are encouraged to attend fire training. Charleston Fire Department says we are welcome to attend their training sessions on alternate Sundays. We meet at the Bradford Fire Hall at 6:15am and leave for Charleston at 6:30.

General Assistance Notice

The municipality of the Town of Bradford administers a General Assistance program for the support of the poor. Pursuant to Title 22 MRSA § 4305, the municipal officers have adopted an ordinance establishing that program. A copy of this ordinance is available for public inspection at the town office. Also available for inspection is a copy of the State’s General Assistance Statutes, as copies of the State Law are made available to the municipality by the Maine Department of Health and Human Services.

Persons who wish to apply for General Assistance may do so at the

Bradford Town Office:

BY APPOINTMENT ONLY

In an emergency, applicants may contact the Sheriff’s Dept. at 945-4636 and leave a message for Vittoria Stevens, Bradford G.A. administrator. The municipality’s General Assistance administrator must issue a written decision within 24 hours of receiving an application. The Department of Human Services toll free number to call with a question regarding the General Assistance program is 1-800-442-6003.

This notice is posted pursuant to Title 22 MRSA § 4304-4305.
