Maine Revenue Sharing

As some of you may know, last year was a hectic year for attempting to budget, especially with the Governor's proposed 2-year budget plan.  At the time, we stood to lose all of our Maine Revenue Sharing monies, which would have meant a loss of income of approximately $75,000 a year for Bradford.  This would have amounted to an increase of between one and one and a half mils just accounting for the loss in Maine Revenue Sharing alone.  As it was, we lost approximately 50% of our Maine Revenue Sharing.  Once the Governor's budget was voted on, we breathed a big sigh of relief that we didn't l

News From the Town Office

Seasons Greetings from the Town Office!  As we endure the winter snows, please allow yourself extra time while driving during a storm and use extra caution during the night hours.

Nomination papers for Selectmen/Overseers of the Poor/Assessors, MSAD # 64 School Board Director, and HAD#4 Hospital Director are available beginning December 18th.

From your Planning Board

It has been a busy fall for the Bradford planning board.  We have updated our land use ordinance.  There are no major changes, just some small adjustments.  This is an ongoing process.  As situations arise, and we notice we don’t have guidelines for them, we try to make adjustments.  It is a long process and one that we do not take lightly.  We will be having a public hearing on the ordinance on February 11, 2014 and we will vote on it at the town meeting in March.

Recommendations from your Fire Department

Bradford Fire and Rescue would like to remind people to use caution when disposing of ashes from their woodstoves and fireplaces. Make sure ashes are cold before dumping them outside. Improper disposal can lead to grass fires or a house fire. We would also like to remind people that it is illegal to burn trash in outside fire pits or when burning brush. If you have any questions on what is acceptable to burn, please contact Town Fire Warden Dusty Kelley at 944 0050, Deputy Warden Carlene Oakes at 327 2121 or Deputy Warden Keith Staples at 249 3008.

Library News December 2013

News From Your Library

Did you know that on April 7, 1913 the John B. Curtis Free Public Library was officially incorporated?  We have received a very attractive certificate from the State of Maine commemorating this event.  This event also means that we are getting very close to celebrating our 100th Birthday.  The library officially opened in 1915.  The trustees of the library are discussing ways to remember and celebrate those 100 years.  Keep your eyes and ears open for information on upcoming events.
